If you are one of those people who think that the ‘70s were the best years in terms of music and style, then you better pay attention. Lately, loads of CDs referring to the style from back then have been popping up. Some are better then others, but the label, ‘Transubstans Records’, has certainly released quite a bit of interesting material.

One such example is the Swedish band, Graveyard. Their music is comparable to Witchcraft, Cream, Blue Cheer, Black Sabbath and Wolfmother. The songs have this typical ‘70s feel and the instruments sound authentic. There’s not much new in terms of structure and composition. It all sounds a bit like “we’ve heard that one before” and not all the songs are classics. But, all in all, it’s nothing to sneeze at. It’s nice to hear a band that sounds slightly different to what we’re used to. But, on the other hand, that can be a disadvantage because the older crowd gets that feeling of ‘it’s good, but it was even better in the old days’…

Wie er van overtuigd is dat de jaren zeventig de beste jaren waren qua muziek en stijl moet even opletten. De laatste tijd verschijnen om de haverklap cd’s die refereren naar de stijl van destijds. De ene cd al beter dan de andere. Het label ‘Transubstans Records’ brengt heel wat interessant materiaal uit.
Zoals de uit Zweden afkomstige band Graveyard, die muziek speelt die vergelijkbaar is met Witchcraft, Cream, Blue Cheer, Black Sabbath & Wolfmother. De songs hebben een typisch jaren zeventig sausje, de instrumenten klinken authentiek. Qua structuur en compositie zit er niet veel vernieuwing in natuurlijk. Alles klinkt een beetje als ‘we hebben dat al eens gehoord’ en de songs zijn niet allemaal klassiekers. Toch is het geheel niet te versmaden. Het is al eens leuk een bandje te horen dat anders klinkt dan we tegenwoordig gewoon zijn. Maar aan de andere kant is dat natuurlijk een nadeel want voor de ouderen onder ons blijft toch heel de tijd het gevoel: goed, maar vroeger was het toch beter…
