English:

There’s BB King and Albert King, but -according to John Mayall- Freddie King was the ‘King Of The Kings’. John Mayall is something of a royalty himself. He’s been recording and touring since the early 60’s and at the age of 73, he’s still going strong.
Mayall and his Bluesbreakers have recorded quite a few Freddie King tunes over the years; ‘Hideaway’, ‘Driving Sideways’ and ‘Someday After A While’, just to name a few. Now, Mayall thinks the time is right for an album-length tribute to the late blues legend. “In The Palace Of The King” features a long list of Freddie King cover tunes, all played with utter respect for the original, but still showing the vintage Mayall approach to the blues. The tracklist is completed by the Robben Ford-penned ‘Cannonball Shuffle’ (The Texas Cannonball was King’s nickname) and Mayall’s own compositions ‘King Of The Kings’ and ‘Time To Go’.
Bluesbreaker guitarist Buddy Whittington has been filling the enormous shoes of predecessors like Eric Clapton, Peter Green, Mick Taylor, Walter Trout and Coco Montoya for quite a while now, but it’s no surprise he’s still overshadowed by these big names. Still, he’s an excellent musician in his own right and the guitar work is fantastic on this album.
Not Mayall’s best by any means, but the old man is still a class act.

Nederlands:
