English:

Canadian blues rocker Pat Travers has released many live albums over the years; the most famous is still his first one, “Go For What You Know”. The title of his latest one is a clear reference to that classic album: “Stick To What You Know”, and that’s exactly what Travers does here. In fact, not much has changed since those early days. This is still the vintage powerful blues/boogie hard rock that Travers played way back when; his voice still sounds raw and growling, and he’s still a master on guitar. Who would have thought some 30-odd years have passed since he started his career.
This new album was recorded at the Bosuil in Weert (The Netherlands) and features an impressive setlist. There are the expected classics like ‘Snortin’ Whiskey’ and ‘Boom Boom (Out Go The Lights)’ and some cover tunes – Red House (Jimi Hendrix), If I Had Possession Over Judgement Day (Robert Johnson) and Oh Pretty Woman (Albert King). Just two songs from his latest solo album “PT=MC2”: the wonderful ‘Elijah’ and the powerful ‘I Don’t Care’ (which was also featured on “It Takes A Lot Of Balls”, his collaboration with Carmine Appice). Both songs show that he can still deliver the goods. Other highlight are ‘Crash And Burn’ and the impressive closer, Booker T. Jones and William Bell’s ‘Born Under A Bad Sign’.
Today, PT is backed up by Kirk McKim (guitar), Frank McDaniel (bass) and Eric Frates (drums), and they sound just as impressive as when noted musicians as Pat Thrall, Tommy Aldridge and Nicko McBrain were part of his band. Excellent musicians, although the focus is obviously on Travers’ voice and guitar work.
A highly recommended album for the blues rockers among us.

Nederlands:

Go For What You Know”.
Andere hoogtepunten zijn ‘Crash And Burn’ en de imponerende afsluiter, Booker T. Jones and William Bell’s ‘Born Under A Bad Sign’.
