English:

The Japanese band ‘Qui’ is a jazz-fusion power trio (guitar/bass/drums), mainly driven by guitar player Takashi Hayashi, who himself is greatly inspired by Allan Holdsworth. ‘Prelude’ is the result of studio and live recordings between 1997 and 2002 and contains short instrumental tracks (all around 4 minutes, except a live performance of 10 minutes). All musicians are technically very good, but there is definitely some lack of variety in the compositions. Hayashi has apparently enough guitar skills to produce nice jazz-fusion and occasionally he adds some synthesizer, but ‘Prelude’ stays a bit too clean and it is not easy to keep the listener his attention. But there is certainly a potential to produce a great fusion cd in the near future.

Nederlands:
