What would it sound like if you put Pink Floyd together with The Ozric Tentacles into a wind tunnel and ask them to start jamming? What would it sound like if this jam would be conducted by Frank Zappa? Well, the sound created by this weird combination would be pretty close to the sound created by The Oresund Space Collective. This Scandinavian band is a group of Danish, Swedish and American musicians that get together as often as possible to start jamming and create a free form of improvised instrumental and cosmic music. This psychedelic music is a bizarre mix of jazz, funk, reggae, kraut, stoner, world, electronic and space rock. Sometimes the cosmic soundscapes by The Oresund Space Collective come pretty close to the trippy music of the Ozrics. The tracks on the “Inside Your Head” album are all “leftovers” from their previous album “Black Tomato”. The tracks on the “Inside Your Head” album are all named after specific areas in the brain. And that’s exactly what this music tries to do with you. It slowly creeps into your mind, creates a rollercoaster of emotions and prepares you for a long spacey, trippy and mind expanding experience. This trip with some great guitars, weird synths, driving beats and pumping baselines most probably will not please all of you. If you did not like their previous releases, you will surely not like this one either. Me, for myself I did not yet make my mind up: is this my kind of music or not? I simply don’t know yet. Anyway, a more kraut, trippy, psychedelic and weird release, will be hard to find this year. I would strongly advise you to check out the band’s my space page, before buying this album.

Welk geluid komt er uit een windtunnel wanneer we daar Pink Floyd opsluiten samen met The Ozric Tentacles en we laten hen trippen onder de vakkundige leiding van dirigent Frank Zappa? Wel, dan krijg je een sound die erg dicht aanleunt bij de soundscapes van deze Scandinavische band. Oresund Space Collective is een space rock gezelschap, opgericht in 2004, dat op gepaste tijden samen komt om zich dan helemaal uit te leven in jamsessies en zich onder te dompelen in hun eigen muzikaal landschap. Een landschap waar we verschillende muziekstijlen aantreffen. De band begint te improviseren en vertrekt dan van gelijk welke muziekstijl om dan ergens uit te komen. De heren beheersen het allemaal. We horen funk, reggae, kraut, stoner, folk, world, electronica en space rock. Alles is mogelijk, alles kan. Hun sound kan je vergelijken met de vrolijke jongens van die andere trippy band “The Ozric Tentacles”. Al is het Oresund collectief iets minder “beat” gericht. De cd “Inside Your Head” bestaat uit tracks die de band overhield aan de opnames van hun vorige cd “Black Tomato”. Deze “leftovers” waren echter van zulk een hoge kwaliteit dat de band besloot ze uit te brengen op deze cd. De heren konden geen betere naam voor deze cd bedenken dan “Inside Your Head”. Alle nummers op deze cd werden vernoemd naar verschillende plaatsen in het menselijke brein. Deze muziek is zo spacy en weird dat hij ongewild onder je hersenpan kruipt en daar een paar rondjes draait op de rollercoaster van je hersenen.
Deze muziek is tof voor wie hiervan houdt. Anderen zullen hier vlug gaga van worden. Wie niet hield van de vorige albums van Oresund Space Colective zal dit ook niets vinden. Wie dweept met de Ozrics zal deze cd zeker het einde vinden. Ikzelf ben er nog niet goed uit of dit nu mijn ding is. Meer spacy, trippy en kraut zal je ze dit jaar niet meer vinden. Misschien toch eerst hun MySpace pagina checken alvorens je dit koopt.
