With al this modern Technologies like internet, MP3 MySpaces it seems that no one was interested in promotion samplers and Best of compilations but some people from the Dutch Promocer label found that it was time for a change and released ‘Nederland Rockt’.
On this compilation you can hear 21 new coming Dutch bands with a variety on music styles like alternative rock, rock, grunge, stoner en progressive. I suppose this compilation is representative for the Dutch Rock Scéne and therefore I’d like to split this album in three categories: Good – reasonable & There are better ones. Let’s start with ‘There are better ones’. In this category you could name bands like The Grit, SkiRT, Impala, Backspin, One Inch Men, Lunar, Teaser & The Getaway. The compositions of this bands are not that special although they are nice to listen to. Luckely most bands could be mentioned in category 2 & 1… Next is ‘reasonable’ ith bands such as Maroen, Semistereo, Mr. Poh, 7th Monday, Ocean’s Edge, Zomotta, Forfeit, 40 Stone & The Depraved. The compositions of these bands are quit good (f.e. Maroen, 40 Stone) but I’d like to hear some more stronger stuff and better vocal work in the songs (Semistereo, 7th Monday en Forfeit). We always save the best for last! 4 bands here Ewe, Maze, Speed Bambergen and Yukka. The songs of these bands are all ‘Stick in the head’ songs, the bands have their own sound and personality, and most of all… you get the feeling that this is gonna be fine! The first song from Ewe (Enschede) has an alternative feel with Polka influences, a nice guitar melody that keeps spinning through your head. Their full Album can be downloaded at www.ewe-ewe.nl For the Autumn – Kingfisher Sky fans there is Maze with the song “To me” with beautiful vocal work from Maartje Meessen; Rock on his best from Maastricht. De fast Rock & Roll tunes from Speed Bambergen did remind me to the good old days of ACDC – Normaal – Rose Tattoo and “If You Want My Love” is a high quality song whereby probably any rock fans will move his head or feet. The second band from Enschede is Yukka and delivers the best song on this album with “Woman Has No Soul”. To compare with other Dutch bands I could say that this song could be taken from a Kane album and has all the qualities in it. Also their full album can be downloaded at www.yukka.nl
The overall production of this compilation is very good and the sound is good. A good album for a good price (8,99€).

Met de komst van MP3, MySpace en andere internet toestanden lijkt de tijd van de verzamelsamplers zowat voorbij maar bij Promocer denken ze daar anders over. Dit nog niet zo lang actieve label heft zonet een verzamelaar op de markt gegooid ‘Nederland Rockt’ - gewoon een verrekt leuke cd. Op deze verzamelaar staan 21 Nederlandse bands. Onder andere alternatieve rock, rock, grunge, stoner en progressief komen op dit album aan de orde. Dit soort verzamelalbums is nog steeds de ideale manier is om je als band te profileren aan een groter publiek.
Wat je op Nederland Rockt aantreft geeft je redelijke indruk van wat er leeft binnen de Nederlandse rockscéne. Je zou deze compilatie kunnen indelen in drie categorieën: Kwalitatief - Goed te pruimen & Dit kan beter. Laat ons starten met ‘Dit kan beter’. Hierin zou ik bands als The Grit, SkiRT, Impala, Backspin, One Inch Men, Lunar, Teaser en The Getaway willen noemen omdat ik de kwaliteit van de nummers niet bijzonder vond. Gelukkig behoren meeste bands tot categorie 2 & 1! Onder de noemer ‘Goed te pruimen’ kun je groepen als Maroen, Semistereo, Mr. Poh, 7th Monday, Ocean’s Edge, Zomotta, Forfeit, 40 Stone en The Depraved noemen. De nummers zijn best goed en zitten goed in elkaar (o.a. Maroen, 40 Stone) al kan bij enkelen onder hem het vocaal werk misschien wat beter (Semistereo, 7th Monday en Forfeit). Het beste bewaarden we voor het laatst met 4 bands die boven de rest uitsteken, met name: Ewe, Maze, Speed Bambergen en Yukka. De nummers blijven in je hoofd hangen, de bands hebben een eigen geluid en voorkomen en je voelt dat het goed zit. Het meest opvallende nummer is “Milkman” van het uit Enschede afkomstige Ewe; het nummer swingt en blijft door je hoofd zweven, misschien mede door het lekker gitaarspel dat verpakt in een alternatief rockkleedje duidelijk ook Polka invloeden bevat. Hun volledig album is tevens te downloaden op www.ewe-ewe.nl Maze ligt dan weer in het verlengde van Autumn – Kingfisher Sky en hun nummer “To me” valt meteen op door de uitstekende stem van Maartje Meessen. Rock op zijn best vanuit Maastricht dus. De snelle Rock & Roll van Speed Bambergen deed me denken aan ACDC – Normaal – Rose Tattoo en met “If You Want My Love” leveren ze een schijf af die je met voet en hoofd doet meedeinen. Het eveneens uit Enschede afkomstige Yukka mag de hekken sluiten in deze categorie en staan mogelijk nog het verst van allen. “Woman Has No Soul” is een hoge kwaliteitssong die zo van een Kane album zou kunnen komen. Geluid en productie zijn over het algemeen verrassend sterk.
Al met al een goed album en aan de prijs (€8,99) kan het zeker niet liggen.
